Ashamed of his heritage

My brother is 9 years old and we are of Haitian and Japanese decent. We have a shrine for our Oji-Chan in our living room. Recently he brought his friends over(all white) and when they came over he put a blanket over Oji-Chan’s shrine because in his eyes “Oji-Chan is weird and none of his friends have a shrine to a dead person in their living room”. his friends then joked about how he was different and looked weird. I honestly don’t know what to do I didn’t go through this phase when I was his age. How do I get him to realize that he shouldn’t be ashamed of us and who we are
