I never understood Footprints in The Sand the way other people do. So, the idea of it is that some dude was dreaming he was walking on a beach with God and looking at his memories, and in the darkest times in his life, there was only one set of footprints. He thought God abandoned him, but it was actually that God was carrying him, something like that. I never understood that. Why is that touching? Why is that a good thing? It says that if the guy thought he was strong for making it through those times, if he thought he was good enough to survive, he was wrong. He's not strong, and he's not good enough, because if he was, he wouldn't have had to be carried. It wasn't his own power that got him through it, but rather the power of an invisible being who quite possibly knew about, planned for, and wanted him to suffer.
