I'm a 15 year old from southern Illinois. As most 15 year olds to I go to a high school in the town called patoka and I play sports. In the summer of 2021 we got new that's a girl on my class had cancer. It came as a suprise to us all. The only think we could do was hell her fight, so we did. Summer passed, she finished chemo and had beaten cancer. Life went on and ask everyone knows 2021 has also been crazy. In March of 2021 I myself had a surgery, to remove and tumor on my mouth. On Easter we got that call and I was diagnosed with cancer. Crazy, second kid within a year at age 15 and from a very small town. I was diagnosed with Mucoepidermoid carcinoma. A rare cancer is the mucus glands on my mouth. Rare in adults and very rare in children. We learned it was at the intermediate stage. With no chemotherapy that could treat it, only radiation. Our first doctor appointment was not a whole lot of help. Since the cancer was so rare all children's hospitals in St. Louis Missouri declined me. After and MRI we scheduled a surgery to remove more cancer and take out my lympnodes. It was a rough few weeks but more cancer was found. Luckily they were able to remove it. I then had another surgery to debulk what they did on my mouth ad was able to get away cancer free without radiation. Ad of now, it's lots of check ups and just recovering. Hope you enjoyed.. sharing the story has helped me a lot!
