The day my husband proposed to me, in a beautiful, flower-draped courtyard, in front of our families and a restaurant full of strangers. It was a hot, dry summer day. The sky was cloudless and deep blue. I had no idea it was coming - I was so surprised! He got down on one knee. He asked the question and I said yes and I hugged him so, so tight and cried tears of joy. Thank you for helping me remember! ❤️❤️❤️

I grew up in a rural family. Hunting and fur trading were a big part of life. Our biggest quarry in our region were raccoons and you hunt those at night in the middle of winter. I was considered an oddball for being a female working in the fur trade and the others gave me no end of crap, but I loved the hunt and the time I got to spend in nature. Anyways: one night there had been a heavy snow and we were working a particularly large section of woods. We paired off in teams of 2 people and each team sent their dogs out. I was tracking my dog with my hunting partner through the trees and we came to a clearing. It was beautiful. We had come out at the top of a hill and below us was a valley of pure snow, completely untouched. It seemed to go on forever. The moon had a bluish glow that changed the whole landscape to an almost dream-like hue. But the thing that struck me most was the silence. Nothing moved, nothing breathed, and it was like I could feel the enormity of the world in one beautiful moment. Even my chatty hunting partner stood there stunned in silence. I've hunted many nights and I've taken many hikes in the winter snow but that night is a precious, beautiful memory and I hope to see it again someday.

On my 12th birthday, my mom took me and my sister to the mall until very late in the evening. I knew my dad was coming but I was really disappointed when at some point of waiting, my mom told me that dad wasn't gonna make it. I was almost crying so she bought me that expensive ice cream I've always wanted to taste. When the mall was near closing time, I saw a person walk past the glass door, and I saw my dad with a huge smile. I ran to my dad almost stumbling down the stairs, and hugged him tight. That was like the greatest gift that day. It was the first and the only time he was there for my birthday ever since working outside the country. It was precious to me.
