Difficult struggles and problems often fill us with dread and despair. But this is because we see only the present painful situation. The thought that things will get worse magnifies our anxiety. And the feeling that it will always be like this evokes a sense of desperation and surrender. When we face apparently insurmountable obstacles in life, we need only focus on what we can and should do in the given moment and not let dread and despair paralyze us. What we fear the most is unexpected change. But this is only because we want to be in control. Therefore, what we should do is attempt to control the actions that we can take to address the problem and take things one step at a time. Simultaneously we tell ourselves to be patient as things will slowly get better. Finally, humility should allow us to see the fragility of our lives and we should therefore be grateful for this most precious of divine blessings.
