On May 23, 2014 Elliot Rodger brutally murdered six people and wounded fourteen others.The murders took place in Isla Vista, California.Elliot Rodger, born on July 24, 1991, went on his killing spree, because of social rejection.Although both boys and girls died during his attack, his real anger and rage and disappointment were directed at girls, who according to Elliot, rejected him, did not care for him and did not give him the time of day.He was extremely mad with popular boys, who received the admiration and love and tenderness girls were not willing to bestow on him.Elliot Rodger did not suddenly strike without warning.Not only did he leave us a very long and elaborate manifest with his complaints about his loneliness and his inability to receive love or appreciation from girls, but he uploaded many, many videos on YouTube with his cries for help and his despair and loneliness and his intense feelings of inferiority.Although Elliot Rodger behaved like an arrogant guy, who described himself as a “real gentleman” and who boasted about his expensive sunglasses, this was just a cover for a guy who did not have any sense of self worth.Now, I am not telling you all this just to entertain you.There is a message I want to convey to you.People who knew Elliot found it very strange, that he complained about girls not liking him and not wanting to get to know him, while he never took any initiative to invite them to MacDonalds, or to offer them to help them with their homework.If I spend my days at home gaming all by myself, there is not much of a chance that a beautiful woman will ring my bell to get to know me.Although in these days women and men are supposed to be equal, it is still the man (or in high school with Elliot Rodger the boy) who is supposed to take the initiative.Behind his bravado and his claims that he was “the ultimate gentleman” a very small and vulnerable boy was hiding.He felt inferior, not worthy of being loved, but he projected his own low self esteem on girls.It is my opinion, that Elliot Rodger was so terrified of rejection, that he avoided girls and then blamed girls for not caring for him and not giving him any attention.It is very sad, that nobody cared, nobody got worried and nobody intervened in all the time he posted his YouTube videos.His behavior got more and more unacceptable and violent. He started to hit girls or harass young couples, because he could not stand seeing other guys get, what he so passionately craved and needed.Someone should have taken the time to help him deal with his huge problem with rejection.And I know, what I am talking about, after having been adopted multiple times.When I was two years of age, I was adopted by my third mother and my third father and I still suffer from the symptoms of being rejected.Maybe if someone had helped Rodger with his problems with girls, before the shit hit the fan and things got lethally out of hand, that would have made some difference.He should have learned how to talk to girls, what to say.What girls like and how you can get their attention.He should have been told, that rejection is bad and painful, but it is not the end of the world.But in high school, many boys are being discriminated by girls, just because they are not handsome, or they do not play basketball like a star, or they are nerds.If you are not popular with the girls as a boy, you “ain’t worth shit” and jocks will make you a laughing stock.And if you are extremely shy as a boy, nobody helps you by teaching you how to talk to girls, or how to feel comfortable with a girl, without being paralyzed and terrorized by the fear of being rejected.A fear, that was so intense, that it did not only kill Elliot Rodger, but many innocent girls and boys.It is time we, as a society, pay more attention to this problem and help boys in this situation, so that they learn the skill of communicating with girls so that they feel safe later on in life if they fall in love or if they want to approach a potential partner.Greetings,Robert.
