Knowledge is a blessing, but also a curse. The smartphone market is a rat race, companies rushing to provide the best of features for lowest of prices. The online markets are blooming with tons of options. But every light has a shadow, and in the shadow lies the offline market. Its for users like me and you, who do not know how to make online purchases, who belong to an orthodox family, and still prefer buying from stores and seeing the thing which arrives first. Knowing this, Smartphone manufacturers have almost removed any choice there was. All good Value-for-money phones are absent from the offline market. In India, there are two big names, Oppo and Vivo. Both belong to the same Chinese parent company BBK . They dominate the offline market with their advertisements and business strategies. I have read on Quora, that sellers always sell Oppo Vivo phones, since they get more comission on them. And people are forced to buy it. Sellers keep no option in their shops either. Recently i went to a shop near my house, I wont reveal the name, and purchased a Vivo Y50. A phone worth 16,990 INR. The shopkeeper almost forced me to buy it saying he loved the phone etc. It had fancy specs on box (I repeat, on box). It said 5000mah battery, Snapdragon 665, 8gb ram, 128gb storage. Something every less knowing customer would love to buy. I purchased it. And Then after looking into it, i found out it only has a 13 megapixel camera. Other manufacturers sell atleast 64 megapixel cameras at that price point. Also others give better processors of the Snapdragon 7 series, like 720G at that price. Other screens have Amoled, Gorilla glass, 90hz refresh rates. And most importantly, it does not even have fast charging (15w), while other phones costing 1-2k less have it. Now, Gaming. 8GB ram sounds fancy, but in popular titles like PUBG, the processor can only push up to Medium at medium frame rates. Even realme c3 pushes up to ultra hd. Costing 6k less. Its a showy phone with good premium design, but nothing inside it, other than ram and storage is premium. What is the use of RAM if the processor is weak compared to it. Nokia gives the same processor in Nokia 5.3 at 14k, but Nokia has Stock android and 2 years of updates so its future proof. I am highly unsatisfied with the product, which i realized after buying it. Its not the value for money people expect. They sell these in offline markets since they know ignorant people will overlook it and not care, or they will assume all phones at that price have same features. This is the dark story of the offline game of Oppo and Vivo. Value for money, is a joke.
